The Italian Trade Agency (ITA) has reported a highly positive outcome following its participation at Biofach 2026, where 65 companies from 16 Italian regions showcased the country’s diverse organic portfolio.
Held recently in Nuremberg, the event saw Italian exhibitors present a wide range of products at a 640-square-metre joint stand. From traditional olive oils, pasta and rice specialities to innovative convenience foods, the pavilion reflected the breadth and quality of Italy’s organic sector.
Participating companies represented regions including Abruzzo, Apulia, Emilia-Romagna, Calabria, Campania, Lazio, Lombardy, Marche, Molise, Piedmont, Sardinia, Sicily, Tuscany, Trentino-South Tyrol, Umbria and Veneto—highlighting Italy’s geographical diversity from the Alps to Sicily.
Ferdinando Fiore, director of ITA in Berlin, expressed satisfaction with the fair’s outcome, noting strong visitor turnout and growing international demand for Italian organic products. He emphasised that German market growth, coupled with stagnating local production, presents promising opportunities for Italian exporters. According to Fiore, the companies successfully established new business contacts while strengthening existing partnerships.
Italian organic products, he added, are rooted in authenticity, quality and a deeply embedded food culture. With Italy’s food culture recently recognised by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, the sector is poised for further expansion.
Product highlights included truffle specialities, preserved vegetables such as artichokes and asparagus, gluten-free flours, ready-made mixes, herbal products, and beverages including coffee, juice and wine. Many offerings combined organic certification with protected designation of origin (PDO) or protected geographical indication (PGI).
According to Nomisma, Italy’s organic food sales reached €10.4 billion in 2024, with exports accounting for €3.9 billion, positioning Italy among Europe’s leading organic exporters globally.
