The 4th National Spice Conference 2025 opened today at ITC Welcom, Guntur, bringing together a powerful gathering of policymakers, industry leaders, farmers, agritech innovators and global buyers. Organised by the World Spice Organisation (WSO), the technical arm of the All-India Spices Exporters Forum (AISEF), the two-day event is themed “Spice Route Ahead – Safe, Sustainable and Scalable.” In his inaugural address, Ramkumar Menon, Chairman of WSO, emphasised the need for India’s spice sector to adapt to rapidly changing global expectations. “The spice industry stands at a pivotal moment where global demand is rising, sustainability is no longer optional, and scalability will determine who leads tomorrow,” he said, underscoring the sector’s urgent need for long-term resilience.
Dr Paresh Shah, Chairman of the FSSAI Scientific Panel on Pesticide Residues, highlighted the importance of food safety as the foundation of the industry’s credibility. “From farm to fork, food safety must be our guiding principle. Our strategies must leave no gap in trust or traceability,” he noted.
Dr AB Remashree, Director of Spices Board India, stressed the transformative power of technology in improving farmer livelihoods. “Technology is the lever; our challenge is to bring it into the fields, scale it across geographies, and ensure farmers share in the value created,” she said.
Day 1 featured insightful sessions on food safety management across the spice supply chain, community-driven capacity building and the integration of AgriTech to support higher-quality cultivation. The presence of farmers, FPOs, agritech firms, processors, exporters and global stakeholders highlighted the sector’s growing collaborative ecosystem.
The conference will continue on 15 November with discussions on responsible growth, sustainability-led innovations and a buyer-seller meet designed to connect producers directly with processors, paving the way for new partnerships and actionable outcomes for India’s spice industry.
