Ade Sukendar, consul general of the Republic of Indonesia in Mumbai, hosted a special Iftar for the Indonesian community at the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in the city recently. The aim of this significant occasion is to promote the joy of breaking the fast during the holy month of Ramadan (Ramzan) Indonesian-style, as well as to bring the people of all faiths and cultures to gather and enjoy a traditional Iftar feast.
Speaking to FnB News, Sukendar said, “It is the second edition of the Iftar party. The main aim of organising it was to spread harmony and peace in the country.”
The event was attended by the Indonesian community in Mumbai, the staff of the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia, and their families. The holy month of Ramadan is welcomed by all Muslims in the world, including Indonesians. There are various unique ways of expressing it. Some even become hereditary traditions. One of these is the Iftar gathering, which has become a part of the tradition. But for the Indonesian community in Mumbai, the opportunity to join the Iftar has its own meaning.
In addition to the opportunity to stay in touch and meet friends, Indonesians always look forward to this event, because various Indonesian dishes, which include Es Cendol, Kolak Pisang, Bintul, Rabeg Kambing, Semur Kentang Tahu, Capcay, Karedok, Bakso Malang, Risoles, and Bakwan Sayur (and are rarely found in Mumbai), are served.
