India tops world chart in turmeric export with 66% share, Lok Sabha told

India exported 176,325 metric tons of turmeric in the last fiscal, wherein 155.35 million USD worth turmeric was exported through Maharashtra. 

In a reply to a question in Lok Sabha, the Ministry of Commerce and Trade has submitted that India tops the world chart in turmeric export with a 66% share in global turmeric market. 

The figures for last five years of India’s contribution in the world exports of turmeric reveals that for the last five years the India share has been more than 60% except for the year 2022. 

Maharashtra is followed by West Bengal and Kerala in turmeric export with 48.54 million USD and 46.77 million USD in value terms. A total of 14 states export turmeric in India while the top five importers of Indian turmeric since 2020 are Bangladesh, UAE, USA,
Malaysia and Morocco.

The Ministry has also constituted a Turmeric Board for the better research and value addition of turmeric.
