India and the United States held another round of talks to secure an interim bilateral trade agreement.
Recent negotiations concluded in New Delhi, where Indian Commerce and Industries Minister Piyush Goyal and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer held multiple rounds of high-level discussions.
Both sides described the meetings as constructive and reported substantial progress on the core components of the deal, including digital trade, supply chain resilience, and the reduction of non-tariff barriers.
The current framework serves as a vital precursor to a more comprehensive trade partnership. While officials have suggested that the vast majority of the agreement is finalised, significant efforts remain to resolve the final "last one percent" of outstanding issues.
A primary focus for New Delhi is ensuring that its tariff structure remains competitive against regional manufacturing rivals, particularly those in the ASEAN bloc.
The urgency of these talks is underscored by broader strategic objectives, including the "Mission 500" initiative, which aims to boost bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.
As negotiators work against the clock, the focus remains on transforming months of technical and ministerial-level engagement into a commercially meaningful pact that delivers stable and predictable benefits for businesses and consumers in both countries.
