ICAR begins agri roadmaps preparation for seven states, UT

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has initiated the preparation of Agricultural Action Plans for the States of Assam, Goa, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh, along with the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The initiative aims to develop comprehensive, region-specific agricultural roadmaps to promote sustainable and resilient agricultural growth across the country.
As part of the process, extensive consultations have been undertaken with the respective State Governments and other key stakeholders to ensure that the roadmaps reflect local priorities, challenges and opportunities.
The Agricultural Roadmaps are being prepared collaboratively by the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, ICAR, ICAR institutes, State Governments, State Agricultural Universities and subject experts. The planning framework is based on agro-climatic regions, natural resource endowments, climate resilience, technological interventions and the evolving needs of farmers. This collaborative approach is intended to ensure scientific validation while aligning the roadmaps with State-specific priorities, local agro-climatic conditions and climate adaptation strategies.
The proposed roadmaps seek to enhance agricultural productivity, profitability and resource-use efficiency across agriculture and allied sectors. Designed as broad policy frameworks, the roadmaps will provide guiding principles for States and Union Territories while formulating their annual action plans under various government schemes.
The key objectives of the Agricultural Roadmaps include increasing farmers' incomes, improving self-sufficiency in agriculture and allied commodities, generating rural employment opportunities and promoting sustainable growth in the agricultural sector. The initiative also focuses on strengthening climate resilience and addressing region-specific agro-climatic conditions and farmers' requirements to ensure long-term agricultural development.
