The Hotel and Restaurant Association (Western India) (HRAWI), in collaboration with the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), organised the latest food safety supervisor training in advance catering (FoSTaC) programme in Mumbai recently. The training was held at The Byke Business – Delotel, Borivali, and witnessed participation from 24 hospitality professionals from across the region.

The programme focused on strengthening food safety practices within the hospitality sector and covered critical topics such as safe food handling, personal hygiene, sanitation protocols, pest control and effective waste management. The training was conducted by Dr. Pasupathy V., who provided participants with practical, hands-on insights aimed at improving food safety compliance and operational excellence within their respective establishments.

FoSTaC is a flagship capacity-building initiative of FSSAI designed to create a pool of certified food safety supervisors (FSS) across the food services sector. The programme equips professionals with in-depth knowledge of good hygiene practices (GHP) and good manufacturing practices (GMP) in line with the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration) Regulations, 2011. Its core objective is to enhance the availability of skilled manpower in the food industry, promote self-compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, and foster a sustained culture of food safety nationwide.

By enabling food business operators (FBOs) to better understand and comply with hygiene and sanitary requirements, the FoSTaC initiative drives behavioural change, improves accountability and helps reduce food safety risks across the supply chain.

HRAWI has played a significant role in advancing food safety standards in the hospitality industry and has so far trained and certified 3,695 hospitality professionals through its FoSTaC programmes and FSSAI’s Management Training Programme. The Association continues to remain committed to empowering industry professionals with the knowledge and skills required to uphold the highest food safety standards in their day-to-day operations, thereby contributing to safer and more responsible food service practices across Western India.
