Harley Food Products Pvt Ltd (an ISO 22000: 2005-certified company based in Surat, Gujarat, whose product ranges comprises potato chips, namkeens, fruit juices and confectionery items) announced its future plans for the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana markets.

Soumik Mitra, the company’s chairman and managing director, said, “So far, we have tied up with manufacturing units in Gujarat and Maharashtra, and by 2017, we would have tie-ups with local manufacturers in Karnataka, Meerut (Uttar Pradesh), Bikaner (Rajasthan), Kolkata, Ratlam (Madhya Pradesh) and Hyderabad.”

“In our expansion plans towards establishing national footprints, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are very important markets and we are looking forward to having more local manufacturing tie-ups in the two states,” he added.

“We are also interested in meeting potential local investors who have an interest in reaping the benefits from the food segment, which is growing at a staggering rate of over 30 per cent annually,” Mitra said.

“We are planning to have a pan-India launch by 2017. We currently offer Rs 5 packs of namkeen and Kurkure and we will soon be launching Rs 10, Rs 15, Rs 30 and Rs 35 packs and family packs,” he added.

“We would be introducing healthy food items like packed juices, chocolates, confectionery items (like jelly candies, toffees, hard-boiled candies and centre-filled lollipop), traditional Indian sweets (like Rasgulla, Gulab Jamun, Sonpapdi and Chikki) and innovative cream biscuits soon,” Mitra said.

“We would also be pioneers in some special flavours, including Achaari Masti, Lemon n Mint and Salt n Pepper, which would be launched for the first time in this country. Our three-dimensional packaging with innovative flavours like fruit-flavoured rings with attractive gifts would set new benchmarks in the industry,” he added.

Piyali Mitra, the company’s director, said, “With a focus on our tagline, ‘Bachche Khush Toh Hum Khush’, our entire product range has its own unique identity.”

She added that one of the leading designers in the Indian food industry had been roped in to create the magic of a twisted combination of attractive and colourful packaging and design and ensure that the moment it meets the customer’s eye, he would try to grab the product.

Harley Food Products also plans to enter the healthy snack category with products like corn chips, Khasaba chips and premium health potato chips made in sunflower oil. These will have an international flavour. The company’s products have no artificial colours, no MSG and no gelatin. Harley’s chips have zero cholesterol and no trans fat.

Its sales target for the current financial year is Rs 100 crore. It aims to reach Rs 500 crore by 2020. It wants to tap international markets, such as the Middle East and the United States, soon and have 20 per cent of its turnover from the overseas markets.
