In a coordinated crackdown, food safety enforcement across North India has intensified over the last few days in view of Holi festival. Led by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and state health wings, the 'Holi Anti-Adulteration Drive 2026' has resulted in the seizure of several metric tons of contaminated food.
As per reports, the most significant strike occurred in Jhansi, where enforcement teams intercepted and destroyed nearly 1,400 kg of fungus-infested khoya destined for local sweet shops. Simultaneously, at the Yamuna Expressway, mobile laboratory units conducted rapid on-site testing on commercial vehicles. This led to the immediate dumping of bulk quantities of synthetic paneer and urea-laced milk at the Jewar Toll Plaza.
In Kanpur, a massive raid on a clandestine manufacturing unit uncovered around 14,000 litres of substandard edible oil, while in Rajasthan’s Salumbar district, authorities confiscated 400 kg of expired ghee and spices.
The drive has also extended to institutional safety. In Haryana, the Education Department suspended rations in five districts after inspections revealed fungus-riddled pulses meant for school mid-day meals.
Meanwhile, to ensure transparency, all field officers have been mandated to upload geo-tagged photos and lab results in real-time to central digital portals.
