A Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Nagpur, Maharashtra, team seized 4,873 kg adulterated soanpapdi worth Rs 3.16 lakh in Pachpaoli, recently.
The FDA team conducted raid on factory premises of Ganga Sweets, Pachpaoli. The factory owner has been identified as Raju Shivaji Bhunje.
Giving details, an FDA official stated,“The labels of soanpapdi mentioned pista as an ingredient but in its place green coloured peanuts were being used in the sweet. Spurious pistachios can be extremely harmful to health.”
He informed that on the basis of confidential information, FDA officials conducted raid on a sweetmeat shop in Pachpaoli and found that the owner was using misbranded ingredients, while preparing soanpapdi. The operation was carried out under the guidance of Shashikant Kekare, Joint Commissioner (Food), FDA, Nagpur, Maharashtra, and Milind Deshpande, Assistant Commissioner (Food), FDA, Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Subsequently, the FDA team of Food Safety Officers (FSOs) Anant Chaudhary, Abhay Deshpande and Prafulla Tople seized the stock being kept for sale.
“All the three samples of soanpapdi, coloured groundnut flakes and colour were sent to the Regional Public Health laboratory, Nagpur, for analysis and after one month, in result, we found that samples were misbranded,” stated Milind Deshpande.
He added, “On the basis of analysis reports of samples, adjudication applications are being filed against the owner of the factory and appropriate penalty will be imposed, because all these samples are declared as misbranded.”
