Our Bureau, Bengaluru
Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL-DRDO) has designed and developed biodegradable carry bags for food distribution. This  can be used as an alternative to the existing non-degradable single-use plastics.  The first consignment of the bags was distributed to Sri Chamundeshwari Temple, Chamundi Hill, Mysuru.

These biodegradable bags decompose within a short span of time, which is 180 days leaving no trace behind and avoid the littering problem. By popularising the use of these biodegradable bags, accumulation of municipal solid waste can be avoided, stated DRDO-DFRL in its communication.

The defence research major based out of Mysuru handed over the biodegradable carry bags for the distribution of prasadam to Krishna, CEO, Sri Chamundeshwari Temple.  Also present on the occasion were Pratap Simha, Member of Parliament, Mysore–Kodagu Constituency; Dr Anil Dutt Semwal, Director; Dr R Kumar, Associate Director; Dr Johnsy George, Scientist; Dr M Pal Murugan, Scientist; and Dr Vasudevan, Scientist from Defence Food Research Laboratory; and Yatiraj, EO, Sri Chamundeshwari Temple.
