The Delhi Government has issued a direction to all the schools in the national capital territory to educate the schoolchildren about processed foods, food safety and the negative impact of unhealthy food diets.
As per reports, a circular in this regard was issued by the Delhi Government directing the schools to sensitise the schoolchildren and make them aware of the advantages and disadvantages of processed foods.
The circular emphasises that while safety, taste, and shelf life are enhanced through food processing, excessive intake of ultra processed food with high salt, sugar, & fat can lead to health risk.
The circular added that the students should also be made aware of food adulteration, use of pesticides, fertilisers, and additives used for processed food.
Further, the schools have been asked to make special arrangements for activities in line with the CBSE’s directive of nutrition awareness and submit an action taken report with details of activities with regards to awareness given to schoolchildren.
