In a significant push towards digitising livestock data collection, department of animal husbandry and dairying (DAHD), under ministry of fisheries, animal husbandry and dairying, inaugurated a two-day training workshop recently in Hyderabad. The workshop is focused on the newly rolled-out “eLISS App” an end-to-end digital solution designed for efficient livestock data capture and reporting.
The training program brings together state and district nodal officers from the southern zone covering Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Lakshadweep and Telangana to familiarise them with the eLISS App’s features and data-reporting protocols. The inauguration was led by adviser (Statistics), DAHD, in the presence of the director of veterinary & animal husbandry, Government of Telangana. The event was hosted at the Telangana Institute of Rural Development (TGIRD), Hyderabad.
During his address, the adviser (Statistics) underlined that data from the integrated sample survey (ISS) carried out at village level is critical to forming a comprehensive national and global livestock database. He emphasised that the digitised data flow through eLISS will help compile and consolidate statistics across states — enabling more accurate, real-time monitoring of livestock stats, improvements in policymaking, and better resource allocation.
Also speaking at the event, the director of veterinary & animal husbandry, Telangana, stressed the importance of livestock statistics and how reliable data supports planning and interventions not only at the state level but also for the union government. Meanwhile, Dr. Prachi Mishra Sahoo, principal scientist at ICAR-IASRI, highlighted that since 2023–24, the eLISS App has been rolled out nationwide, providing a unified platform for livestock data collection and digitisation.
The workshop was attended by senior officers including additional and deputy directors of veterinary & animal husbandry from Telangana, along with DAHD officials and state nodal officers, underlining the collective commitment to strengthening livestock data infrastructure and transparency.
With digitisation through the eLISS App, DAHD aims to streamline livestock statistics, enhance decision-making, and support India’s animal husbandry & dairy sector with reliable, data-driven insights a welcome step for the country’s ever-growing agrarian and F&B ecosystem.
