Choc-Ex 2016 commences at Mumbai’s Bombay Convention & Exhibition Centre

fiogf49gjkf0d The theme of Choc-Ex 2016, India’s only trade fair focusing on the chocolate industry, was From Beans to Bar. The event, which took place at Bombay Convention and Exhibition Centre, was organised by Exponential Solutions.
The event started with the lighting of the lamp by John P John, founder and chief executive officer, Agro Products and Agencies (manufacturers of Daynmerry chocolates and cocoa products) and Prakash Sanghvi, director, Delta Nutritives Pvt Ltd.
Sanghvi said, “Since this event is taking place for the first time, there are 15 exhibitors. We are expecting a footfall of 1,200 visitors over the two days.”
The day was marked by a seminar on Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulatory standards: Checklist for the home bakers and chocolate manufacturers while complying with FSSAI by Equinox Labs’ Vinita Nalawade.
She said, “Every packed food must carry a label containing information about the product. The label should not get separated from the container and the ingredients should be present in the descending order of their composition by weight/volume at the time of manufacture.”
“The (FSSAI) standards allow the sales of only those chocolates that contain cocoa butter and not those that contain vegetable fat or oil. If the chocolates contain any type of allergens (nuts, egg, milk, etc.), the same must be mentioned on the label. Chocolates containing permitted sweeteners and food additives must be declared on the label,” Nalawade added.
A live demonstration of chocolate pralines, showing the technique of air brushing, was conucted by Shorya Kapoor, head, patisseries and confectionery, Assocom Institute of Bakery Technology and Management (AIBTM).
Rina Patra, a visitor, said, “For me, chocolates are something very interesting and fun. I have always attended events related to chocolate, and each time, I get to learn something new in the industry.”
Ajay Pathade, Nature Pure, an exhibitor, said, “We supplying baking ingredients to some of the major biscuit manufacturers in India. The event is a platform to expand the business. It gives us the opportunity to deal with business.”
The first day also witnessed a seminar on innovation packaging by Ace Industries’ Vinay Chandak. The seminar focused on packaging technology, automation in technology and packaging.
