fiogf49gjkf0d Britannia NutriChoice Essentials, in partnership with The Diabetic Food Trail, hosted the Britannia NutriChoice Essentials Diabetic Masterclass in Delhi to provide a preview to easy diabetes management. This is the second in a series of Masterclasses being conducted as a run-up to World Diabetes Day (November 14, 2016).
The Masterclass enabled diabetics to recognise the importance of eating nutritious and well-balanced meals with a regular fitness routine for the effective management of the disease, besides learning to read packaging labels and nutritional values of ingredients through an interactive session with nutritionist Tushima Malshekhar. About 225 restaurants are participating in the event, which is spread across five cities. After Mumbai and Delhi, it will be held in Chennai, Pune and Bengaluru.
Diabetes is posing a serious lifestyle challenge needing immediate attention. This initiative is committed to building awareness for diabetes prevention, management and making healthy yet tasty food choices. The core of Britannia’s philosophy is Eat Healthy, Think Better. The brand was the frontrunners in making biscuits with oats, ragi and multi-grains.
“India is known as the diabetes capital of the world. With 70 million people living with diabetes, it is second only to China. NutriChoice Essentials can play a vital role in dietary management by catering to the in-between meal needs of the diabetic population,” said Ali Harris Shere, vice-president, marketing, Britannia Industries.
“The products have a low glycaemic index, which has been clinically proven to help manage blood sugar levels, and is thereby a great in- between meals snack for diabetics,” he added.
“We are happy to be associated with the second season of the Diabetic Food Trail, which is an excellent initiative to help diabetics be better equipped in managing the condition through changes in lifestyle and diet,” Shere said.
“The insights we received after speaking to many diabetics, caregivers, doctors, nutritionists, is that there were not enough food options for the diabetic population. This is why, we have invested into products such as Britannia NutriChoice Essentials, and partnered with Diabetic Food Trail. It’s a small step in the direction of making India more diabetic-friendly,” said the company.
Gaurav Paul, executive chef, Hyatt Place, Gurgaon, prepared a spread that included assorted Bruschetta, grilled chicken, Catalan Spinach Orzotto and sugar-free tiramisu. To bust the myth that diabetic food is bland and boring, the audience was informed about the caloric and nutritional value of each recipe.
