bigbasket, India’s largest online supermarket, has launched GoodDiet, its new healthy food range, which comprises ready-to-cook (RTC) mixes, roasted snacks and other superfoods.
The RTC mixes are made from whole grains such as foxtail millet, ragi, kodo millet and oats. The roasted snack range includes roasted flaxseeds, roasted pumpkin seeds, and chia seeds. The superfoods include amaranth grains, buckwheat flour, pumpkin seeds, ancient wild rice, etc.
The range was unveiled by Krishna Byre Gowda, agriculture minister, government of Karnataka, on the sidelines of the International Fair for Organics and Millets 2018, which concluded recently.
“bigbasket’s new offerings do not only retain the flavour factor, but also give a healthier twist to cooking and snacking,” the e-tailer said.
Gowda said, “Events like the Organics and Millets 2018 International Trade Fair are great opportunities for like-minded organisations to interact and build lasting relationships and also to showcase their product offerings on a large scale.”
He added that the initiative will result in the overall well-being of the Indian population at large, going by the company’s large customer base.
“There could have been no better event to launch this product other than Organics and Millets 2018. It will provide the GoodDiet range the much-needed leverage. The idea behind this new and healthy range of eatables was to cater to the ever-increasing demand of healthier and quicker food options. These are highly nutritious foods and superfoods. With this, we are not only adding a new category to our existing range of health and diet products, but also giving our valued customers a push towards leading healthier lives,” said Seshu Tirumala, national head, buying and merchandising, bigbasket.
With a few hundred daily orders, bigbasket had a modest beginning. In six years, with the support of its customers, it has surpassed the 50,000-daily-order mark to become India’s largest online supermarket and the sixth largest grocery retailer of India across the online and offline formats. The company has recently crossed the six-million customer mark. bigbasket has also recently strengthened its business-to-business (B2B) business by expanding to the HoReCa (hotel, restaurant and catering) segment and partnering with SnapBizz, a retail-technology firm, in an effort to transform India’s kirana stores into technology-enabled modern retail stores. bigbasket closed the previous fiscal year with Rs 1,410 crore in revenue and broke even in two key markets – Bangalore and Hyderabad - in its slotted delivery business.
