In a major leadership change at one of India’s most iconic FMCG firms, Varun Berry has stepped down as Managing Director and Vice Chairman of Britannia Industries Limited after an illustrious 13-year tenure.
Under Berry’s leadership, Britannia transformed from a biscuit-major into a diversified food powerhouse, expanding its footprint in dairy, bakery, and snacking segments. He is widely credited with modernizing the brand, driving innovation, and significantly improving profitability and market capitalization.
Sources indicate that Berry decided to step down to make way for the next phase of leadership as the company focuses on innovation-led growth and digital transformation. During his term, Britannia’s revenues reportedly grew nearly fourfold, and its brands such as Good Day, Marie Gold, and NutriChoice became household names across India.
In his farewell message, Berry thanked employees, partners, and consumers for their “unwavering trust” and said he was proud of the company’s journey toward becoming a future-ready food major.
Industry analysts hailed Berry’s contribution, calling him one of the most impactful leaders in India’s FMCG space who successfully balanced brand heritage with modern consumer expectations.
