Union Food Processing Industries Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal recently inaugurated two food processing units — Godrej Tyson Foods Limited and Iscon Balaji Foods Private Limited, at Gur Kirpa Mega Food Park. Ironically, the food park has not been inaugurated to date.
She said the park was approved in November 2015, and was slated to be completed in May 2018, but has been deliberately delayed.
Badal added there was a complete lack of initiative from the Punjab Agro Industries Corporation Limited (PAIC) to stick to the mandated schedules.
The minister said these two food parks will benefit the people of Ludhiana and nearby districts, including Jalandhar, Moga, Amritsar and Fatehgarh Sahib.
She said the two units would process 7,200 MT (metric tonne) per annum of potatoes and 5,700 MT per annum of frozen and ready-to-eat food products.
Badal added that once all the 42 mega food parks get operational, 50,000 people will get employment.
She was accompanied by Rameswar Teli, minister of state for food processing industries.
