AWL Agri Business Ltd., announced its partnership with the Solvent Extractors’ Association of India (SEA) and Solidaridad Regional Expertise Centre (SREC) to advance the Regenerative Mustard Mission – Sustainable Mustard Farm Project. As the lead sponsor, the company has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SEA during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai.

Under this collaboration that will be in force till August 2027, 3,000 mustard model farms will be established in nine districts across the country, including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Haryana, scaling up from the existing 1,500 farms. These model farms will demonstrate regenerative agriculture practices, satellite-based monitoring, soil health management and climate-resilient techniques, aiming to bridge the yield gap in mustard cultivation.

The initiative seeks to train and support 20,000 farmers through demonstration plots, farmer field schools and digital advisory platforms. By adopting sustainable practices, the project targets a 30% increase in smallholder productivity and income, directly contributing to India’s National Mission on Edible Oils – Oilseeds (NMEO-OS) and the government’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

Angshu Mallick, CEO & MD, AWL, said, “As India continues to depend heavily on edible oil imports, mustard presents an immense opportunity to strengthen our self-reliance. Through this initiative, AWL reaffirms its commitment to empowering farmers, enhancing sustainability and contributing meaningfully to the government’s mission of reducing import dependency. By promoting regenerative practices, we are not only supporting farmers’ livelihoods but also building resilience against climate change.”

Sanjeev Asthana, president, SEA, said, “The Solvent Extractors’ Association of India has been working tirelessly to promote oilseed self-sufficiency. With AWL’s support as lead sponsor and Solidaridad as the implementing partner, we are confident that this initiative will become a milestone in India’s journey towards sustainable and profitable mustard cultivation.”

Dr Shatadru Chattopadhayay, CEO & MD, SREC, said, “Our model farm approach, coupled with digital agri-advisories and farmer capacity building, ensures that smallholder farmers can adopt climate-smart and profitable practices. Partnering with AWL and SEA allows us to scale this impact to thousands of farmers across India.”
