The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has inaugurated its new regional office in Chhattisgarh at the 2nd India International Rice Summit, marking a strategic step towards strengthening agricultural and processed food exports from the state.
The newly launched office is aimed at providing end-to-end support to farmers, farmer producer organisations (FPOs), cooperatives, producer groups, startups and exporters, enabling them to access global markets more efficiently. With Chhattisgarh emerging as an important agri-producing state, the APEDA presence is expected to play a key role in converting local produce into export-ready commodities.
According to officials, the APEDA Chhattisgarh office will offer a wide range of services, including exporter registration, advisory and hand-holding support, market intelligence, certification assistance, and facilitation of compliance with international quality and safety standards. It will also help stakeholders with infrastructure development, branding, packaging, and building market linkages with overseas buyers.
Chhattisgarh is widely recognised for its premium non-basmati rice varieties, which have strong demand in international markets. Apart from rice, the state has significant production of fruits, vegetables, and minor forest produce, offering vast export potential across multiple agri and value-added categories.
Highlighting early success, initial shipments of fortified rice from Chhattisgarh have already been exported to Costa Rica and Papua New Guinea, reflecting the growing global acceptance of products originating from the state. These exports underscore the effectiveness of focused institutional support and the readiness of Chhattisgarh’s agri ecosystem to scale up exports.
Industry stakeholders believe that the APEDA office will act as a crucial bridge between producers and global markets, improving awareness, reducing procedural bottlenecks, and enhancing competitiveness. With rising global demand for safe, nutritious, and sustainably produced food, the initiative is expected to significantly strengthen Chhattisgarh’s position on India’s agri-export map and contribute to the country’s broader export growth ambitions.
