Akiba Dairy and MooMark, subsidiary of Stellapps are focusing on the premium hospitality segment by offering high-quality dairy products tailored to the needs of luxury hotels.  By emphasizing, consistency, food safety, and reliable supply, the two are   working to establish as a trusted partner for premium hotels.

The strategy will strengthen brand positioning, drive higher-value sales, and create long-term growth opportunities in the expanding premium hospitality sector, said Ranjith Mukundan, CEO & Managing director, MooMark India subsidiary of Stellapps.

The partnership aims to explore the adoption of advanced Japanese dairy farming practices and technologies to enhance milk productivity, improve quality standards, increase farmer profitability, and promote sustainable dairy production in India. By leveraging Akiba’s expertise in Total Mixed Ration (TMR) feed systems and precision dairy management, the collaboration seeks to bridge productivity gaps for a value-driven dairy ecosystem.

In Japan, advanced feeding systems have contributed to achieving milk yields of approximately 40 kg per cow per day, compared with the estimated average productivity of around 15 kg per cow per day in India, highlighting the potential for technology-led transformation across the Indian dairy sector.

Initial commercial initiatives will focus on premium hospitality where demand for superior-quality dairy products is steadily increasing. This strategic approach will enable the company to build strong market presence, showcase product excellence, and establish long-term partnerships within the premium hospitality ecosystem, as we are contract manufacturers for many dairy players in the country, said Arun Agarwal, senior manager, MooMark India.

At a recent Premium Dairy Experience event held at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bengaluru, Japanese craftsmanship showcased dairy and matcha flavoured pastries specially created to demonstrate how high-quality dairy products could deliver exceptional taste, texture, and consistency while meeting the exacting standards of premium hospitality.

Hidetake Akiba, CEO, Akiba Dairy told FNB News, “We need to adapt it to Indian conditions using local resources. We will import ideas and expertise from Japan, not materials. Japanese dairy expertise should not simply be transplanted to India.

Now the 140-year-old Japanese dairy major sees opportunity in India's smallholder farming model.  Our goal is to develop and produce original feed in India using locally available ingredients. By improving nutrition, we hope to increase milk production while also improving farmers’ incomes, said Hidetake Akiba.

When productivity improves when farmers see each cow as an individual and care about its health, comfort, and well-being. Understanding what the cow needs is just as important as technology.  Everything starts with healthy, stress-free cows. Healthy cows produce better milk, better manure, and ultimately healthier soil. That creates a sustainable cycle that benefits both productivity and the environment, noted Hidetake Akiba.

Moreover, climate change and other external factors are changing agriculture dramatically, especially in the area of energy. To respond effectively, precise data collection and management are becoming essential. Data-driven decisions will shape the future of dairy farming, he said.

Japan once had many small-scale dairy farms, so we understand many of the challenges Indian farmers face today. We believe smallholder farmers should play a leading role in the future of sustainable dairy farming. That is why we see such great potential in India and want to grow together with its farmers, said Hidetake Akiba.

The Bengaluru-based MooMark sources milk from Karnataka Kolar, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh and has licensed technology for contract manufacturing,

In May this year, Akiba Dairy and MooMark unveiled the premium gelato initiative and installed a dedicated innovation lab in Bengaluru.  Here MooMark’s robust and traceable dairy supply network with Akiba's expertise in gelato production, brought forth a differentiated value proposition that delivers premium-quality dairy solutions. By integrating our sourcing with Akiba, strengthens product innovation, enhances quality assurance, and supports the evolving needs of premium customers, said Mukundan.

MooMark's digital infrastructure spanning over 42,000 villages across 17 Indian states gives this partnership a registered base of over 3.5 million. said Agarwal.
