To support demand for cold storage units, Bitzer to expand sales in AP

Our Bureau, Mumbai
Bitzer, one of the world’s largest private compressor manufacturers, announced its plans to expand its sales and support operations in India (especially in Andhra Pradesh) to support the growing demand for cold storage units for the fisheries, meat and poultry and fruit and vegetable sectors.

The demand for cold storage units for allied industries like seed cold storages, dairy products and test chamber facilities is also increasing, and these are being set up in the southern state.

With a view to support the setting up of a complete cold food supply chain to help curb the high wastage of food, estimated to be around Rs. 44,000 crore annually (for India) and to encourage the setting up of agro-based industries, the Centre, supported by the Andhra Pradesh government, announced a scheme to subsidise the setting up of cold storage units, including controlled atmosphere and modified atmosphere stores.

Blast freezing is also a requirement for the meat and poultry industry, which is recognised as a sunrise industry, catering to the Middle-Eastern market. As a result, many cold storage facilities have come up in Andhra Pradesh, with seven more (currently under installation) expected to get commissioned later this year.

Bitzer, with its range of products and after-sales support already supplies to leading Andhra Pradesh-based food-processing companies like Coldcare Agritec, Foster Cold Storage, Fresh N Frozen, Qureshi International, Deccan Frozen, Al Noor Trader, Sneha Chicken, Zetatek Industries and Envirotec.

With a view to support the installed base in the region, the company started its third Green Point Compressor Service Centre in the country at Bangalore. It is now planning to expand this chain, with the next Green Point Service Centre slated to commence operations at Kolkata in April this year.

Bitzer is the only global compressor manufacturer with a pan-India service network. In addition, it has sales companies and manufacturing facilities for all types of reciprocating, screw and scroll compressors and pressure vessels in India.

Bitzer India Pvt Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of the German parent, has been operating in the country since 2007.

It supplies its compression products to major original equipment manufacturers (OEM) located in Andhra Pradesh as well as major national chains, as it has products to support all kinds of refrigeration applications. Its service support network is unmatched with company-owned service centres at Mumbai, Delhi and Bengaluru.

Bitzer has a trained team of engineers in India to train and support its customers across the country. As one of the leading providers of refrigerant compressors in India, it provides such solutions as technical design and planning support, installation and commissioning its products.

This, coupled with technical support and the experience of local contracting companies, would ensure that end-customers can focus on their primary businesses without having to worry about refrigeration. Bitzer is known for a host of energy-efficient products, ideal for Indian customers, who are conscious of conservation.

The company’s employees and customers would undergo intensive training on all types of compressor fault diagnosis and repair in the training programmes organised by its Green Point Service Centres. As a part of this initiative, it is currently organising a series of seminars, commencing with one in Hyderabad.

‘‘We provide a customer support to our Indian customers through a three-tier system of training courses, service and spare part delivery. At Bitzer, we accompany the life-cycle of every compressor around the world, and work consistently for its customers,” said Harvinder Bhatia, country general manager, Bitzer India.
