Singapore's Kinara Group of Restaurants opens first outlet in India, more on the anvil
Tuesday, 20 April, 2010, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
MV Chandrashekar, Bangalore
Singapore's Kinara Group of Restaurants has now forayed into India beginning its first outlet in Bangalore. Plans are underway to set up 6 more outlets in the next 24 months.

The Group has invested around Rs 3 crore for this maiden initiative in the country.

“As India is a huge market we need to expand in a big way, so we need numbers . Bangalore is more cosmopolitan than any other city and therefore we opted to open the outlet here,” Raj Patro, founder and head, Kinara Group of Restaurants, told F&B News.

Although the restaurant in Bangalore was recently launched, it had seen positive response from both locals and expatriates, he added.

The menu is the North Indian Cuisine with a special emphasis on North West Frontier Cuisine. The perception of people that Indian food is heavy is not true. It's prepared with fresh masalas, no colours, less oil so that it's more healthy. All tandoori items move fast specially the platter of Kebabs and Nalli Ghost, Roganjosh and Tandoori Chicken.

“As part of our future expansion, which is six outlets, we would look at different cuisines. We are planning for franchising the brand and open all across India. We are planning to have more than 50 outlets in next four years time,” Patro said.

The restaurant is similar in appearances to a Rajasthani Haveli. Its brick construction makes it environment-friendly and creates a cool environment.

“Kinara restaurants in Singapore are faring well. We will be introducing this brand in Vietnam, China, UK and Australia. In Singapore our major guests are expatriates and representatives from the corporate sector.”

The global economic slowdown which impacted hotel industry across the world did see a dip in sales for Kinara Group, too, said Patro.
