Ozone Group joins hands with Govt for setting up North East Mega Food Park
Tuesday, 21 June, 2011, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Manjushree Naik, Mumbai
Ozone Group, a pharmaceutical & consumer healthcare segments player, has joined hands with the government in a Public-Private Partnership with an SPV model to facilitate setting up of a mega food park project near Guwahati with a view to enhance infrastructure for food processing and benefit the farmers and food processing industry of the North-East region, FnB News learnt recently.

The scheme was announced to help achieve the Vision 2015 of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, which aims at increasing the processing of perishables from the current 6% to 20%, value addition from the current 20% to 35% and at increasing India’s share in global food trade from the current 1.5% to 3%.

“Created with the intent of PPP with the government and the SPV model, the Ozone Group’s endeavour would be to facilitate a smooth completion and running of the North East Mega Food Park. This project is more of a social commitment and responsibility for the Ozone Group as we have learnt in the process of our business how the farmers are deprived of their dues and not paid the right price for their crop. The mega food park will not only create a platform for them to take care of their produce under one roof for collection, but also for the food processing industry for processing the produce,” said S C Sehgal, chairman, Ozone Group of Companies, and CMD, North East Mega Food Park Ltd.

“This will also generate employment for about 30,000 people in the North-East region. It is our commitment to the government and people of the region that we will leave no table unturned to ensure smooth running of the park. We are committed to make it happen and have the will to do so. This will arrest the wastage of the farm produce, farmer will get a ready customer and the industry, quality raw material,” added Sehgal.

The park is expected to have about 27 food processing units with collective investment of about Rs 250 crore that will eventually lead to a annual turnover of Rs 400 – 500 crore. The Group has invited investors and industries to come to invest in the project.
