Keventer Group sets up EFRAC, MoFPI-approved R&D laboratory in Kolkata

fiogf49gjkf0d With globalisation and rapid expansion in the food & agriculture sectors, industries across the globe are investing hugely in India. In a similar bid, Keventer Group has set up a state-of-the-art analytical and R&D laboratory in Kolkata.
“The laboratory is at par with laboratories of international standards and would operate under the name of Edward Food Research and Analysis Centre Limited (EFRAC), Jayant Sircar, head, corporate communications, Keventer Group, informed FnB News in an e-mail interview.
EFRAC is a project approved by the ministry of food processing Industries under the 11th Five Year Plan scheme for setting up/’upgradation’ of quality control/food testing laboratories.
Sircar mentioned that the centre was set up with an investment of Rs 35 crore, is a set up with a vision of providing state–of-the-art analytical & R&D services for extensive array of quality management, risk and safety assessments, commodity testing and inspections, auditing and certification of products.
“We cater the R&D and analytical needs of sectors like food processing units, beverage and juice manufacturing units, packaged drinking water, milk and milk products, spices, canned and frozen food, poultry, meat, fruit and vegetables and so on and so forth,” he said.
Also, the entire facility has all the recent and high-end sophisticated technological conveniences, including instruments such as analysers, biochemistry analysers and automated Kjeldahl and Soxhlet extraction systems, whereby all of them are being connected through centralised data monitoring and 21 CFR part 11 complaint software (LIMS), which is already in accordance with the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA).
Further he said that the facility would benefit stakeholders including domestic industry, exporters, entrepreneurs, small and medium enterprises existing academic & research institutions, food standards setting bodies and concerned government organisations.

“EFRAC has applied for accreditation by NABL, Department of Science & Technology, India,” he trailed off.
