fiogf49gjkf0d Kamani Oil Industries, one of the country’s leading high-quality vegetable oil processors (whose 2013 turnover was Rs 950 crore) launched its first range of trans-free products. The product range of trans-free bakery products comprises Pufflite, Cakelite, K-Lite, TasteePuff, Kpuff, Kcookiez, Kmeetha Plus and Komplete Plus.
According to government statistics, one-fourth of all deaths among people in the 25-69 years age group is due to cardiovascular diseases. Studies have shown that Indians are affected by heart diseases at a much younger age vis-a-vis their western counterparts.
The key factors contributing to this is the adoption of an unhealthy lifestyle, comprising sedentary habits, a lack of physical activity and poor eating habits, including excessive consumption of trans-fats.
The range, introduced using sustainable practices, could withstand high ambient temperatures and was characterised by excellent plasticity.
Along with being trans-free, the products also contribute to better taste and volume and add to its nutritional value.
The products could be used for all types of bakery applications, including cheese sticks, croissants, biscuits, cookies, doughnuts, butter cream and cream-based biscuits.
Speaking at the launch, Prakash Chawla, director, Kamani Oil Industries, said, “We have come long way from being a copra-crushing business and a solvent extraction plant in the year 1963.”
“Established in the year 1995, right from the beginning we have followed futuristic appreciation in creativity and innovation of the product. We have set a trend by launching rice bran oil, palm oil and now trans-fat-free oil with sustainability,” he added.
“The product, currently launched in Mumbai, would be launched all over Maharashtra and Gujarat in the next few months, and thereafter, we would spread our wings all the over the country,” Chawla added.
The company (which is currently focussed on instituitonal clients who are big players in the bakery sector) now plans to shift its focus to sales and education in the mid-size market.
Along with ensuring this new range is consumer-friendly, Kamani Oil Industries also ensured that the manufacturing processes of this range was environmentally-friendly.
Besides being the first vegetable oil processor to be a member of the Roundtable of Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), Kamani Oil Industries is also a member of SEDEX.
Chawla said, “At Kamani Oil Industries, not only has our focus been on developing healthy oils and fats, but also on developing these sustainably. We are glad to be able to contribute to a greener and healthier tomorrow.”
