fiogf49gjkf0d ITC Hotels Limited's recently-opened luxury property in Chennai, the ITC Grand Chola, ranks among the world's largest LEED Platinum Green hotels in the New Construction category – a testament to the chain's commitment to responsible luxury.
The hotel has 600 rooms. Its banqueting and convention areas cover an area of 1,00,000sq ft and the pillar-less ballroom – covering an area of about 30,000sq ft – is among the largest in the country. Kaya Kalp, a spa chain, will occupy a 23,000sq ft space.
It also has ten food and beverage destinations, including Peshawri, Pan Asian and two new additions, Royal Vega (showcasing vegetarian cuisine from the royal kitchens of India) and Ottimo (Cucina Italiana), among others. Kalai, its in-house preview theatre, can accommodate 45.
Speaking at the launch, Philippe Charraudeau, vice-president and general manager, ITC Grand Chola, said, “The ITC Grand Chola is ITC's tribute to Tamil Nadu and an iconic asset for Chennai, as an archetype of the culture and ethos of the region.”
“The grandeur and unique attributes of the hotel will provide a boost to the hospitality sector in addition to transforming Chennai into India's convention capital,” he said. The use of the latest technology (iPad controlled technology with features created by the ITC team) sets it apart.
In addition to augmenting business and revenue for the state, the ITC Grand Chola is expected to generate both direct and indirect employment. About 4,000 people worked on the project for five years until its completion, and 1,200 people are engaged in the hotel's day-to-day operations.
