fiogf49gjkf0d Banaskantha District Cooperative Milk Producer’s Union Ltd (Banas Dairy), one of Gujarat Co-operative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) Ltd’s largest member unions, has completed the foundation stone-laying ceremony for its milk processing plant in Faridabad, Haryana. This is the first facility outside Gujarat.
The plant would have an initial milk processing capacity of ten lakh litre per day, and would eventually increase its capacity to 15 lakh litre per day. This is the fourth plant in the National Capital Region (NCR) for member unions of GCMMF after the two plants at Manesar and Dharuhera by Mehsana District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd., Dudhsagar Dairy and one that is being commissioned at Rohtak, Haryana by Sabarkantha District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd (Sabar Dairy).
Banaskantha Milk Union plans to invest about Rs 300 crore to create milk processing facilities at Faridabad. The plant will manufacture products like pouch milk, curd, butter milk and ice cream under the brand name Amul.
Amul is among the largest selling brands of milk in Delhi and the NCR region, with daily sales of 25 lakh litre. The sales volume is expected to increase by 10-15 per cent annually during the next five to seven years.
Banaskantha Milk Union procures milk from more than 3.5 lakh milk producer members of Banaskantha district of Gujarat and procures approximately 33 lakh litre milk per day from Gujarat.
Parthibhai Bhatol, chairman, Banaskantha Milk Union, stated that the plant would benefit consumers as well as milk producer members of Haryana, as Banaskantha Milk Union would increase its milk procurement from the adjoining NCR.
Sanjay Karamchandani, the union’s managing director, said, “We have initiated expansion as per guidelines of GCMMF, and in line with the Mission 2020 strategy prepared for our member union.”
Banaskantha Milk Union’s board of directors and R S Sodhi, managing director, GCMMF, graced the occasion.
