FSSAI constitutes 45-member Central Advisory Committee

Food Safety and Standards Authority of India has constituted a 45-member Central Advisory Committee.
V N Gaur, Chief Executive Officer, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, has been appointed as chairperson of the Central Advisory Committee.
Two persons from the processed food industry have been appointed as members in the Central Advisory Committee, one from the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) and one from the small-scale industry. These members are Sameer Barde, Director, Confederation of Indian Food Trade and Industry (CIFTI, food wing of FICCI), who represents the large scale food companies in the country. The other person is Pradeep Chordia of Chordia Food Park, Satara in Maharashtra, who represents the All India Food Processors’ Association as well as the small-scale processed food industry.
From Agriculture sector two persons, namely Dr J Tonpangyongdang Walling of Nagaland and Arun Balamatti of Karnataka have been appointed as members in Central Advisory Committee.
From consumers organisations R Desikan of Concert and Consumer Association of India, Chennai, and Keya Ghosh of Consumer Unity and Trust Society, West Bengal, have been appointed as members in the Committee.
Dr S P Vasireddi, chairman and managing director, Vimta Labs Limited, Hyderabad; and Prof. Gopal Naik, Indian Institute of Mangement (IIM), Bangalore, have been appointed as members in the Committee from the Research bodies and food laboratories sector.
Thirty-five government officials from the states holding the post of Commissioner of Food Safety have been appointed as members in the Committee. However, 22 State Food Commissioners’ posts are at present vacant.
Also, chairperson of the FSSAI Scientific Committee, has been appointed as member in the Committee.
