Chennys Creamery invests Rs 5 crore in production of milk products

Chennys Creamery, has invested Rs 5 crore to set up a production facility in Bangalore. The company has developed products which are sold under the brand name 'Morrats' The product range include set dahi in tubs, curds in pouches and paneer. The facility is located at Kaglipura village in Sarjapur, and the production capacity is around 15,000 litre. Currently they produce 1200 to 1500 litre of set dahi. In this sector other players include Nestle, Amul, Niligris, Brittania and Vijaya.
Speaking to F&B news C Kumar, head, Chennys Creamery said that the response was good for all the three products and its unique selling proposition include quality, attractive packing and service network.
The Rs 5 crore was utilised for setting up the building, land, machinery. While the diary units consists of equipment like pasteurizer, homogenizer, cheese vat, processed kettle are imported from Holland, Italy, Germany for cheese. The company has already applied for ISO certification and will soon get the same.
The products are currently available in more than 500 outlets across the city in areas like Indiranagar, J B Nagar, Koramangala, and kirana stores. The items are supplied through insulated vans.
The company also plans to venture into mozarella, cheese for households, pizza parlours. Their rubbery texture cheese will have a flavour, initial production will be 100 kilos the product will be of high quality and pricing will be competitive.
Other products in the next 4 months will be cheddar cheese, gouder, production is already on while cheddar takes 6 months for maturing. Gouder takes 1 to 3 months for maturing. These niche products will have a competitive pricing so that it can be affordable by one and all, told Kumar.
Other new products in the pipeline include yoghurt drink, 2/3 flavours (peach, green apple, strawberry). It will come in plastic bottles in the next 8 months. Whey drink (high protein) is being readied aiming at fitness centre and other health freaks. It will come in flavours of green apple and blue berry.
Kumar said that talks were on with a chain in Kerala to keep the products in Cochin. Other places where the products are available now are Erode, Ooty, Chennai and Mysore. The ingredients that are necessary for manufacturing are of a high quality items that they source. Milk is procured from Hosur, imported culture from Denmark, enzymes for cheese from Holland. They are concentrating on the products and want to ensure distribution and good service. The shelf life of set dahi, paneer is 15 days while that of curd is 5 days. No preservatives are added.
Ghee is another product which will hit the market next month, since the market is vast. Other plans in the pipeline once the Cheddar cheese is out is to send it to Singapore also where Indian populace is located. While the European cheese is animal-based and our product is vegetarian they expect to make a mark, Kumar concluded.
