fiogf49gjkf0d In a bid to boost Bihar’s food processing sector, Tariq Anwar, minister of state for agriculture and food processing industries, laid the foundation stone for a unit on Katihar-Purnea Road in Bhasana, set up by the Amrapali Group.
“Bihar has a lot of potential in food processing. The Amrapali group is playing a key role in the progress of the sector in the state. I urge more private firms to come forward and invest here,” he said.
“In fact, Bihar is the only state that has the capacity to fulfill the entire’s country’s requirement of pulses. However, awareness about food processing must be spread across the state,” the minister added.
Anil Kumar Sharma, managing director, Amrapali Group, informed FnB News that they had set about fufilling Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar’s dream of placing at least one Bihari dish on the platter of every Indian.
“The food processing unit in Katihar (which is, incidentally, Anwar’s hometown) would be set up in one year time,” he said, adding that they planned to set up a food processsing unit in each district of the state in the next three to five years.
“Our mega food park in Buxar, Amrapali Mum’s, would be one of the largest in the state. Spread across an area of 32.5 acre, the mega food park has been established at an outlay of Rs 400 crore, and is expected to generate 150-200 jobs. It would have eleven food processing units,” Sharma said.
“In fact, two units are already running there. One manufactures corn flakes, and the other produces maize under the brand name of Mum's Food. The others would be dealing in poultry, rice and milk processing, fruit juices and vegetable processing,” he informed.
“Since private companies are investing in the state and trying to develop its food processing sector, I, as minister of state for agriculture and food processing industries, will ensure that the mega food park gets the requisite technology,” Anwar said.
“The overall development of Bihar depends on the development of its agro sector, and I have assured the chief minister that I would help it grow. I am from Bihar, and I will definitely ensure that the state prospers,” the minister added.
Anwar also informed FnB News that setting up units that would undertake the packaging and marketing of processed foods in the state was also the need of the hour, as these would not just reduce the wastage, but it would also generate revenue.
