1.5 lakh kg expired food products worth 6 cr destroyed in Rajasthan

In a massive enforcement action in Jaipur, the Rajasthan Food Safety Department recently seized and destroyed approximately 1.5 lakh kg of expired food products worth over Rs. 6 crore.
Acting on a tip-off received via the state’s 181 helpline, a team led by the Chief Medical Health Officer raided a warehouse in the Kho Nagorian area. The investigation revealed a sophisticated operation where workers used chemicals like thinner and acetone to erase original expiry dates from thousands of cartons.
As per reports, the raid uncovered a sinister rebranding plot involving 4,500 new Amul-branded cartons intended for repackaging the tampered goods, including mayonnaise, pasta, and energy drinks.
The facility’s operator reportedly admitted to learning these date-altering techniques through YouTube tutorials to make expired stock appear fresh. Further inspection confirmed that the warehouse was operating under a lapsed FSSAI licence, and the building was kept locked from the outside during the day to hide the illegal activities of the workers inside.
The reports added that it took 27 trucks over four days to transport the hazardous items to a dumping ground for destruction.
Authorities have officially sealed the premises and initiated legal proceedings under the FSS Act and ‘notices’ have also been issued to the original manufacturers and suppliers as part of a broader investigation into the distribution network.
