TG SAFE suspends licenses of nine restaurants

Peethaambaran Kunnathoor, Chennai
In a major crackdown on food safety non-compliance, the food wing under the Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has suspended the FSSAI licenses of nine commercial eating establishments with immediate effect, ordering them to halt all food preparation and service operations.

The high-profile regulatory action follows a synchronized special enforcement drive across Medak, Nizamabad, and Kamareddy districts, during which joint inspection teams evaluated hygiene and sanitary standards at 20 major highway diners, multi-cuisine restaurants, and hotel dining rooms.

The enforcement drive was executed by 10 specialized multi-agency teams comprising Food Safety Officers working in coordination with local police personnel. Spearheaded under the direct authority of the TG SAFE Commissionerate, the joint operations targeted high-traffic dining hubs and highway establishments situated along major transit routes, including National Highway 44. Officials systematically inspected kitchen infrastructure, food storage facilities, waste management systems, and personnel hygiene to ensure strict compliance with statutory food safety standards.

Inspections uncovered widespread and critical public health violations, painting a stark picture of neglected hygiene practices across several high-volume venues. Enforcement officers documented extensive pest infestations, including live houseflies, cockroaches, rodents, and rodent faeces in storage and food preparation areas, alongside patchy flooring, flaky walls, and grease-laden exhaust chimneys.
Crucially, inspectors noted widespread cross-contamination risks, such as storing raw meats and cooked foods together in unhygienic refrigerators, alongside improper labelling, unmaintained drainage systems, and the use of spoiled vegetables and expired culinary ingredients.

Out of the 20 inspected venues, nine establishments faced summary license suspensions due to severe and immediate public health risks. The shut-down facilities include Zyka Multi Cuisine Family Restaurant (Baswapoor), The Malgudi Restaurant (Bhiknoor), Sri Vasudha Family Restaurant (Bhiknoor), New Udipi Krishna Bhavan (Adloor), Lufyans Family Restaurant (Adloor Yellareddy), and Taj Family Dhaba (Sadasiva Nagar) in Kamareddy District, alongside Rejuvenate Hotels (hotel group), Mr. Pottel Meat Mate, Hotel Nikhil Sai International, and Hotel Glamour in Nizamabad District.

In addition to immediate shutdowns, regulatory authorities initiated legal and administrative proceedings against 11 other food establishments evaluated during the drive. Show Cause Notices were issued to six venues, including Sri Aadhya Grand Family Restaurant (Ramayampet), Sri Aadhya Grand Multi Cuisine Restaurant (Jangampally), Rangeela Family Restaurant (Indalwai), Sri Krishna Priya Family Restaurant, Bheemavaram Ruchulu, and Hotel Vamshee International, initiating legal procedures to levy statutory monetary penalties for identified non-compliances.

Meanwhile, five establishments, S4 Manohaa Food Plaza (Manoharabad), Raghavendra Vegetarian Restaurant (Toopran), Haldi Drive in Restaurant (Toopran), R.S Grand Restaurant (Narsannapalle), and Hotel Krishna (Dichpally), were served formal improvement notices. These facilities have been mandated to rectify identified infrastructure and sanitation lapses within a stipulated timeframe, after which food safety officers will conduct mandatory follow-up reinspections to verify full statutory compliance before determining further action.

Reinforcing its surveillance capabilities, TG SAFE enforcement teams collected 21 food samples across the inspected venues based on reasonable suspicion of adulteration, sending them for rigorous chemical and microbiological laboratory analysis. Official statements issued by the Commissionerate confirm that regulatory vigilance over highway eateries and urban commercial kitchens will remain intensified across the state, sending a clear mandate to the hospitality sector that uncompromising food hygiene and consumer health safeguards remain paramount.
