MoFPI takes measures to strengthen millet processing infrastructure

The Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has taken measures to strengthen millet processing infrastructure and advocacy for popularising its usage.
The ministry has incorporated millets as one of the thrust areas for incentives available under ministry schemes. So far, a total of 1,780 loans have been sanctioned amounting to Rs 95.78 crore for individual millet processing units from various states under the PMFME scheme.
Out of this, 1,417 loans have been disbursed amounting to Rs 67.38 crore so far.
The ministry has approved 30 millet-based proposals for Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, which includes proposals from 22 MSMEs, and in addition, the ministry has identified 19 districts with millet products as One District One Product (ODOP) under its PMFME scheme and has approved three marketing & branding proposals for millet products.
According to the MoFPI, as part of millet advocacy measures, the ministry has also organised Millet Mahotsavs in three districts in September including Kolkata, in West Bengal, Amritsar, in Punjab and Hyderabad, in Telangana.
An official with the ministry said that Millet Mahotsavs were organised with the help of State Governments and industry associations and attracted participation of food processing entrepreneurs, farmers, farmer organisation, cooperatives, equipment manufacturers and so on.
