FSSAI takes action against British Lifesciences

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has initiated legal proceedings and enforcement action against Bengaluru-based infant nutrition manufacturer British Lifesciences Pvt. Ltd. following regulatory inspections that uncovered misbranded and expired baby food products.
FSSAI informed that the action was taken as part of a targeted nationwide enforcement drive ensuring compliance and safety within the infant nutrition sector.
Further, following directions from the court, 3.7 metric tonnes (MT) of expired infant food products were ordered for destruction.
As per FSSAI, during the inspection, regulatory officers identified and seized a significant quantity of misbranded infant food articles under the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006.
Citing the critical health risks posed by non-compliant baby food products to infants and young children, the regulator initiated formal legal proceedings against the Food Business Operator (FBO).
FSSAI confirmed that the seized stock was safely disposed of under regulatory oversight to prevent any potential reuse, diversion, or reintroduction into the commercial food supply chain.
The food authority reiterated that the stringent measure underscores its commitment to safeguarding infant health and enforcing zero tolerance for regulatory non-compliance in specialised dietary products.
