FSSAI suspends license of Westend Agro Products

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has cracked down on major regulatory non-compliances, immediately suspending the state license of Westend Agro Products Pvt. Ltd. over alleged date tampering and penalising railway catering operator Sopan Restaurant for allegedly serving sub-standard dairy products.
The apex food regulator suspended the manufacturing license of Westend Agro Products following a targeted raid at its operational premises. Authorities initiated the inspection upon receiving complaints of alleged systemic fraudulent relabelling and the distribution of misbranded food products.
FSSAI in a statement has stated that Inspectors seized industrial printing equipment, chemical solvents, and stamps allegedly used to alter mandatory batch numbers, packaging details, and expiry dates on food items.
Additionally, enforcement teams confiscated packaging materials carrying alleged false claims, including unauthorised "Organic" declarations.
Labelling the deliberate forgery as a direct threat to public health, the FSSAI classified the affected inventory as prima facie unsafe and barred all further business activities at the facility pending legal proceedings.
In a parallel enforcement measure targeting passenger safety, the FSSAI passed an adjudication order penalising Sopan Restaurant, which manages Pantry Car No. 15904 on the Chandigarh–Dibrugarh Express.
The action follows laboratory analysis of a "Nova Flavoured Double Toned Milk" sample collected directly from the train’s pantry car.
As per FSSAI, testing conducted by the State Public Health Laboratory in Assam confirmed that the product failed to meet prescribed safety criteria and was legally sub-standard under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006.
Following the laboratory findings, the Designated Officer for N.F. Railway, Maligaon, forwarded the report and initiated legal proceedings under Section 68 of the Act.
The FSSAI statement added that the Adjudicating Officer in Alipurduar subsequently issued the order, imposing a formal penalty on the authorised representative of Sopan Restaurant for distributing sub-standard items to rail passengers.
