The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued regulatory show-cause notices (SCN) to pharmaceutical major Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Nestle Health Science Limited, Tirupati Wellness, and leading e-commerce marketplaces including Flipkart India, Amazon Seller Services, and Netmeds Healthcare over alleged non-compliant advertising and misleading health claims for the nutritional supplement "Celevida GLP+".
The action follows official observations by the central food regulator regarding how the product is branded, packaged, and marketed across digital platforms.
According to an official statement issued by FSSAI, the regulator flagged several promotional claims and packaging representations.
FSSAI observed that the product was advertised as providing "High Protein Support for Lean Muscle Preservation during GLP-1/GIP Therapies”, improperly implying suitability for specific medical or physiological conditions.
Further, the name "Celevida GLP+" itself, combined with therapy-related claims, was found to create a misleading association between a food supplement and clinical GLP-1/GIP therapies.
FSSAI noted that disclaimers stating the name is "only a brand name and does not represent its true nature" are insufficient to neutralise the impression created.
Also, Front-of-pack claims such as "Helps Maintain Lean Muscle”, “support muscle strength”, “supports immunity”, and "energy metabolism" were highlighted as potentially misleading regarding the actual health benefits of the product.
The FSSAI also flagged statements describing the product as "Complete Daily Nourishment" and "dependable nutrition in every serving”, found to portray the supplement as a complete meal replacement.
Additionally, the regulator called out representations like "Imported from Europe for purity" as misleading, stating European origin does not inherently establish superior protein purity.
FSSAI has directed all concerned Food Business Operators (FBOs) and e-commerce platforms to show cause as to why formal action should not be initiated against them under the Food Safety and Standards (FSS) Act, 2006, and its underlying regulations.
Meanwhile, regarding a separate recent enforcement action involving a dairy whitener, the multinational giant in a statement said that ‘Nestle Low Fat Dairy Whitener’ is safe to consume and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements.
“We have been in continuous engagement with the authorities as per due process established under law and have shared data across other same/similar milk-based products in the category to reflect the presence of naturally occurring phosphorus,” reads the statement issued by Nestle.
