FBOs withdraw misleading label claims

Major food business operators including Dabur India, Lotte India Corporation, and Ferns N Petals have implemented corrective measures on packaging and promotional claims following regulatory show-cause notices from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).
The regulatory push targeted product misclassification, unverified marketing claims, and omissions in mandatory labelling across multiple consumer brand categories.
In its enforcement update, the food safety authority revealed that six companies took action following regulatory scrutiny.
Dabur India resolved a compliance issue regarding an Ayurvedic proprietary medicinal oil that was being marketed under the edible oil category. To resolve the conflict, Dabur instructed e-commerce platforms to reclassify the item under Ayurvedic proprietary medicines and initiated corresponding changes on its official platform, placing the product outside FSSAI’s food regulatory purview.
Lotte India Corporation removed ‘100%’ claims from its product packaging after regulatory objections.
Meanwhile, Ferns N Petals updated packaging across its confectionery lineup, notably its Roasted Almond Chocolate, after FSSAI flagged the inclusion of hydrogenated vegetable fat without the mandatory bold declaration required for non-cocoa butter fats, along with missing percentage Recommended Dietary Allowance (%RDA) values and ingredient disclosures.
Other operators named in the FSSAI disclosure also adjusted their operations.
Eat Better Ventures withdrew comparative marketing claims and ‘No Added Sugar’ positioning relative to traditional sweets. Om Sai Healthcare began reviewing marketing materials for its 'Vedaflexa Capsules' to remove unauthorised therapeutic claims, while S S Product Prop suspended operations to comply with statutory standards under the Food Safety and Standards Act after non-food grade materials and missing packaging metrics were identified.
