The first commercial model of Live Fish Carrier System (LFCS), a patented technology for transportation of live fish invented and commercialised by ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana, was sold to Sishupal Dogra of Himachal Pradesh, who is the owner of Sarovar Aquaculture.
Dr Nachiket Kotwaliwale, Director, ICAR-Central Institute of Post Harvest Engineering (ICAR-CIPHET) released the unit in presence of the inventor of the technology Dr Armaan U Muzaddadi, the Head Transfer of Technology Division Dr D N Yadav, all scientists, and a group of farmers at ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana main campus.
The licensed manufacturer of the system Raftaar Engineering Pvt. Ltd of Ludhiana handed over the system to Dogra immediately after the release. This technology is highly in demand which is useful for carrying different types of fish in live condition from farm to the market with a transit fish mortality of less than 5% for a journey period of about 4-5 hours. The transit fish mortality otherwise in traditional crude system is 50-60% or even 100%. The system is convenient to handle fish by one person whereas 4-5 labours/trip are required in traditional method. The LFCS can carry 200 kg of live fish per trip.
