World Food Safety Day / Wide ranging event in Japan encourages reflection on food safety responsibilities

Japan Food Safety Management Association (JFSM) held a World Food Safety Day 2026 event on June 5, 2026. This was the fifth consecutive year that JFSM organised a World Food Safety Day event in Japan, attracting 373 participants both in person and online.
To encourage broader participation, multilingual live captioning was provided for the online audience, allowing attendees from outside Japan to join the event.
The event provided a platform for dialogue across the food chain, bringing together food manufacturers, retailers, consumer representatives, academics, and food safety professionals. Through presentations and a panel discussion, participants explored food safety challenges and solutions from their respective perspectives.
In line with the World Food Safety Day message that ‘Food safety is everyone's business’, the programme encouraged participants to reflect on their own roles and contributions to ensuring safe food throughout the food chain.
The programme also included opening remarks from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan (MAFF) and was organised with the cooperation of Seven-Eleven Japan, one of Japan's leading retail companies.
