Global food processing and packaging leader Tetra Pak has inaugurated its new Product Development Centre (PDC) for powder process and technology in Cholet, France, marking a major step in accelerating innovation and industrial-scale validation for the food and beverage (F&B) powder sector.
Spread across 340m², the state-of-the-art facility features a fully equipped pilot plant with modular production lines and cutting-edge powder-handling technologies, alongside a dedicated testing laboratory for quality assurance, compliance, and process optimisation.
The PDC is designed to help food and beverage powder producers validate recipes and processes before full-scale industrial rollout, significantly reducing risks, development costs, and product loss while boosting yield and speed-to-market. The facility allows trials using sensitive or high-value ingredients under real production conditions, ensuring minimal waste and improved sustainability.
From raw material analysis to pilot-scale simulation and industrial scale-up, the centre supports every stage of the innovation cycle. It houses a library of over 6,000 powder samples and advanced instruments to study powder behaviour across categories like dairy, beverages, whey protein, functional nutrition, and ice cream.
To enhance accessibility, high-definition livestreaming allows customers worldwide to participate remotely, with full technical data, recordings, and product samples shared post-trial.
The facility also showcases advanced innovations like the Tetra Pak air jet cleaning system for powder for efficient ingredient utilisation and the Tetra Pak production control ignition user interface, which simplifies production control and boosts operational efficiency. Charles Brand, executive vice president, processing solutions & equipment, said, “Our new PDC empowers producers to innovate faster and with confidence, meeting the rising demand for fortified and sustainable nutrition.”
The new Cholet centre strengthens Tetra Pak’s global PDC ecosystem, connecting expertise across markets to help producers innovate, scale, and bring new powder-based products to shelves with greater efficiency and precision.
