On July 1, 2026, European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), renewed management board began its four-year mandate. Bringing together representatives from all EU Member States, European Commission, European Parliament, civil society and food chain interests, the board reflects the inclusive governance model for EFSA that was introduced under the Transparency Regulation.
Representatives of civil society and food chain interests were selected following a public call for expressions of interest launched by European Commission in 2025. The remaining members were nominated or appointed by the Member States and the relevant EU institutions. Their term of office runs from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2030, and this is the second mandate under EFSA's new governance structure.
Nikolaus Kriz, EFSA’s executive director, said, "At a time when scientific evidence is more important than ever in shaping policies and protecting public health, strong governance is essential. The Management Board plays a key role in ensuring that EFSA remains a trusted and forward-looking organisation that EU citizens can rely on.”
The board provides strategic oversight of EFSA’s activities. Among its various responsibilities, it appoints the external experts of EFSA’s Scientific Committee and panels and adopts the Authority’s budget and work programmes.
