fiogf49gjkf0d Arla Foods Ingredients launched three healthy snacking concepts - high-protein smoothies, 100 per cent whey-based drinks and protein bars.
High-protein smoothies are made with Lacprodan Smooth80, a whey protein that bosts the protein levels in smoothies to as high as six per cent without compromising on the taste and texture.
The 100 per cent whey-based drinks, which incorporate Lacprodan DI-7017, offer milk- or water-based drinks that contain high levels of a whey protein concentrate which is highly soluble and digestible.
Protein bar is formulated with Nutrilac PB-8420 (a natural milk protein). It offers a long shelf life, retaining its soft texture for over a year.
The company said snacks that were healthy, tasty and easy to consume would shape the future of how people ate and drank.
Research (titled ‘Snacking patterns of US adults: What we eat in America, National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey [NHANES] 2007-2008) showed that as many as 90 per cent of adults snack daily.
Convenience in Europe, On-the-go consumption - Consumers’ motives, demands and requirements stated that the average person consumed 2.2 snacks a day. Pleasure and convenience are the key purchase drivers.
Arla Foods Ingredients said that products that combine these attributes with positive health credentials, such as those offered by dairy proteins, would be the winners in the snacking category.
These concepts offer food and beverages a way into the snack category with value-added products that consumers would want to buy repeatedly.
Troels Laursen, head, health and performance nutrition, Arla Foods Ingredients, said, “High-quality milk proteins, such as whey, offer a wide range of health benefits, including increased levels of satiety and stabilisation of blood glucose levels, which are fantastic snacking concepts.”
“With consumers leading busy lives, they struggle to find the time to eat three sit-down meals a day, and we believe that snacking is the future of eating,” he added.
“However, healthy snacks are the key to maximising success, and the concepts we have developed would showcase the benefits of dairy proteins in snack products that offer consumers nutritious and guilt-free indulgence,” Laursen said.
