Expired beverages seized by Food Safety Department

A beverage manufacturing facility in Perambur (neighbourhood of North Chennai), was found to be in violation of beverage manufacturing protocols.
A raid was conducted by a team of officials from the Food Safety Department of Tamil Nadu. The officials raided a godown at the erstwhile Binny Mills premises in Pulianthope in Perambur, and seized thousands of branded beverage bottles.
These branded beverages had crossed the expiration date but were being sold to local stores and TASMAC bars.
The designated officer P. Satheesh Kumar, from the Food Safety Department, Tamil Nadu, who led the four member team into the raid, stated that the raid was conducted after they received news about the manufacturing facility housing and selling expired branded beverages to stores and TASMAC bars in Pulianthope.
On further investigation, the team was able to locate another facility, nearby that stored expired beverages in its godown. After checking the products for the FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India), number, it was made clear that the licence had expired.
Both facilities have been shut and a heavy fine has been imposed.
