fiogf49gjkf0d Kinnow processing has commenced at the multi-fruit processing plant in Hoshiarpur, Punjab (which was set up by the state government through Punjab Agro Industries Corporation on a 25-acre plot, at an outlay of Rs 50 crore) after five years. The company has been procuring the fruit from the farmers to make juice, which is then sold to Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL).
K S Pannu, managing director, Punjab Agro Industries Corporation, said, “The corporation has decided to market kinnow juice prepared at its juice plant directly to the consumer. The juice prepared by PAIC is a pure juice, unlike those available in the market, which have a low fruit pulp percentage.”
“A large quantity of fruit would be produced, with a view to add value to the cultivation of kinnow in the area. It has been observed that kinnow juice is a source of vitamin C and other minerals,” he added. In addition to kinnow, the Hoshiarpur facility would process about 3,000 tonne tomato.
