Food Ingredients (Fi) Asia 2008, a part of the world leading informex series of food ingredients trade shows, is all set to draw an increased response in Thailand this year. This will be the 13th edition of Fi- Asia show where the organisers are expecting more than 7,500 industries professionals to participate from across the globe.
To represent the Indian spices industry, Kerala-based Vallabhdas Kanji Ltd (VKL), is exhibiting its products at the event. VKL is the flagship company of a $100 million Kanji Mooranji Group.
CA Nipulal, general manager, Vallabhdas Kanji Ltd, shares his views on the role of Indian exhibitors in Fi-Asia 2008 and about his products for the exhibition in an interview with Hasan Mulani from Food & Beverage News. Excerpts:
Which are the products that you will be exhibiting at the FI-Asia event?
VKL is an Indian spice trader with most diversified exports of spice products worldwide. For the event we are exhibiting the entire range of the spices. However, our main focus will be on black and white pepper, red chillies, ginger, turmeric, nutmeg, cinnamon, coriander and cumin. These products are properly sterilised by using steam sterilisation method which will be available in whole and ground forms.
Do you think Indian brands and products will be successful in drawing the attention of the visitors?
Recently India's spice export has crossed $1 billion mark accounting for 45% of the global spice export. Whereas, the spice processing sector in the US and EU is falling with every passing day. This will help us to gain more attention for our products.
VKL is the largest spice processing and spice ingredients industry in Asia. Every product we sell has to pass at least 300 documented quality checks. With a production capacity of 20,000 million tonnes every year we emerge as leaders in the Asian spice sector.
Are you looking forward to crack any deal at the event?
Generally, we do not participate with an objective of cracking deals. In every event, we showcase our products only to build the contacts with potential customers. It takes approximately 2 months between building a contact and obtaining an order from them.
Our unique selling point (USP) is better equipment, improved agricultural practices and education for the farmers, best prices and customer services, consistent quality with dedicated processing line will automatically help us to develop contacts.
According to you, what is the scope for FI events in India?
Fi-India has good scope as we have hugely diversified consumers with mature markets. At present our country is growing with 8% per annum rate and the organisers have entered into the Indian market at the right time.
The Fi- India 2008 will focus on cultivation, extract, process and supply of food and beverage ingredients which facilitate to enhance our country ingredients sector. We are confident that Fi-India 2008 will be great success and it will also grow tremendous in the coming years.
Have you ever visited any Fi-events previously?
We at VKL are the regular exhibitors and visitors at all major Fi events. Recently we had exhibited our products in the Fi-Europe 2007, Fi-CEE (Central & Eastern Europe) 2008 and Fi-Latam. This is our 5th participation in the Fi-Asia event.
