a good time and much required support from food processing minister is an added incentive. There are huge opportunities and challenges ahead of the industry in the wake of growing domestic demand and fast changing consumer expectations at home and abroad (NRI). Most of the processed food products are shear-sensitive in nature and need gentle handling at all stages of processing, ending with pumping to filling-heads, indicating a significant need for damaged free pumps in the procedure of food processing. The damaged free pumps are very important, due to the sheer sensitive products like processed food, dairy products, fruit products, prepared meat and vegetable items like meat with mayonnaise, sausage emulsions, sauces with cooked sabzi and paneer, soups with mushrooms, prepared salads, etc.
The idea is to retain the original structure, appearance and feel of pumped media for better end-use performance and user re-purchase preference over similar products in the market place.
Kaptan's Vistas Engg Pvt Ltd, the Indian representative of Germany-based Maso Process-Pumpen GmbH offers a simple and ingenious solution: Maso Sine Pump.
The basis of the principle on which this positive displacement pump functions is a CNC-ground special steel disc with two sine wavelike curves. The difference to the product pre- and post-pumping is hardly discernible. Safe and gentle unloading/transfer of concentrated fruit juices (apple, mango, orange, lychee) is possible. Due to excellent suction capability, it can even transfer frozen orange juice concentrate at minus 11°C.
Low viscosity juices, even with small fruit pieces, are pumped without pulsing, allowing uniform and stable flow to filling-heads. In the manufacture of beer, gentle transfer of yeast leads to consistent quality. Virtually all-wearing parts can be replaced in-situ, without disassembly of pipes.
As a clear indication of the stability of the components, MASO provides a 10-year guarantee on the pump casing and pump lid. Application-specific options are different MoC's, radial rotary shaft seal, heating/cooling jacket, various end connection options (including a wide throat inlet), full CIP compatibility and aseptic versions.
The Maso Sine Pump can be used for products with particles. The main advantage for the MASO SINE PUMP in the beverage industry is the powerful suction. Orange juice concentrates with minus 8°C or thin liquid juices can be transferred without any problems. Minimal rotating parts ensure ease of maintenance and the sinusoidal shape of the rotor creates the 'chambers' for product movement. With every revolution of the pump the four 'chambers' massage the product through the pump with no mechanical stress. The scraper divides the suction and pressure side and also forms the seal. In addition, it forces CIP fluids into all areas of the housing to ensure complete cleaning. It should be noted that alternative materials for scrapers are available, to suit application. Its advantages include suction capability down to 0.85 bar, gentle handling, shear sensitive products can be transferred with nearly no damage, pulsation free operation, flexible Hardware and Software system and inline maintenance possible.
These state-of-art pumps are manufactured at Maso plant in Germany under DIN EN ISO 9001, TÜV certification, and are available up to a capacity of 90,000 LPH and pressure of 10 or 15 bar. Approvals include EHEDG, 3-A, US-FDA. Its users are located worldwide.
