vers across different parts of the country, the world's largest chicken restaurant chain, Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) enters the city of idli's and dosa's, Chennai. This new store is located in the Planet Yumm Food Court in the Ascendas Tech Park in Taramani. KFC also plans to launch its second restaurant in the city later in the month at the Citi Centre Mall on Radhakrishnan Salai.
KFC brings to Chennai it's mouth watering proprietary chicken that is renowned internationally. It offers a range of signature chicken products like the crunchy Hot & Crispy chicken, the soft and juicy Original Recipe Chicken - made with Colonel Sanders' Secret Recipe of 11 herbs and spices and the sumptuous Zinger Burger. Chicken lovers can indulge in the international favourite Chicken Bucket, a feast of 12 sumptuous pieces of chicken in an attractive takeaway reusable bucket.
About its entry in Chennai, Unnat Verma, senior marketing manager, KFC said, "KFC is expanding its presence in India at an unprecedented pace. Our entry was focused on the fact that the Chennai market offers great potential due to its burgeoning population and is a very important metro down south. Chennai is also a main IT Hub that makes it a very important market for KFC."
KFC has been a big success in the south given that it has five restaurants in Bangalore. It opened three restaurants in Hyderabad last year and would be opening one more outlet shortly, and the opening of restaurants in Chennai would further extend its popularity in the region.
At present, KFC has 21 restaurants in India. One in Mumbai, five restaurants in Bangalore, five in Delhi/NCR, two in Pune and Kolkata, one each in Chandigarh, Ludhiana and Chennai, and three restaurants in Hyderabad. On its USP, Verma said, "The reason for KFC's success is the unique taste of KFC's signature chicken products like Hot & Crispy chicken, Original Recipe Chicken and the Zinger Burger and there is an entire range of vegetarian products created specially for the Indian market like Chana Snacker, aromatic Veggie Pulao, steaming Makhani Curry, the Paneer Wrap 'n' Roll and the Veg Thali - all created specially for the Indian market."
India is a significant growth market for Yum Restaurants International. KFC is expanding its presence in India at an unprecedented pace and this will be facilitated both through franchisee and equity development. "We are currently bullish on expansion based on the initial response from our current locations and we are in the process of building a national footprint for the brand. Yum! Restaurants will almost double its count by the end of 2007," said Verma.
KFC today is the world's largest chicken restaurant chain. KFC today has more than 12,300 restaurants in more than 80 countries, serving eight million customers everyday around the world! It is a part of Yum! Restaurants International (YRI), which also owns Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, A & W and Long John Silver's. YRI is the world's largest quick service restaurant company (in terms of system units) with over 33,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.
