Indian delegation packs a punch at Interpack 2011

Messe Dusseldorf Germany, the organisors of Interpack 2011, accorded a warm welcome to one of the largest delegation of 175 members of Indian packaging industry organised by Inorbit Tours Pvt. Ltd and led by Om Prakash, director and the ambassador in India of Messe Düsseldorf. It also included the exhibitors organised by the Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP).
Ernst H Berdl, ex-president of Interpack, welcomed the Inorbit delegation and explained the salient features of the show. He also emphasised about his relationship with the Indian packaging industry due to his past visits to India. He also appreciated the efforts of Om Prakash in promotion of Messe Dusseldorf Fairs since 35 years. N C Saha, director, IIP, explained about the IIP pavilion and thanked Om Prakash, for his cooperation and for the nice arrangments of hotels, Indian food and transportation.
Marek Chromik, Head International Receptions thanked Om Prakash for orgainising a large delegation and informed the delegates of Messe Düsseldorf’s support to Om Prakash. Kim of Messe Dusseldorf India also explained about the activities of their India Office.
Vivian Pan of Messe Dusseldorf China spoke about China Pharm 2O11, the leading fair for pharmaceutical machinery and invited the pharma delegates to visit the China Pharm 2011 Shanghai (October 25-28, 2011).
Interpack 2011 with more than 2800 exhibitors from 60 countries occupied a total space of 1,72,000 sq m spread in 20 halls and the open area of Messe Düsseldorf. More than 2,00,000 visitors from over 100 countries attended. Interpack displayed the latest technology in the field of processing and packaging in the segments of paper, board, foil, plastics, metals, glass and wood. Also prominently was the display of bakery, confectionery, pharmaceutical packaging and dairy products specially milk packaging machinery.
Indian exhibitors
A record number of 72 Indian exhibitors demonstrated India’s machineries, products and material. It also included the pavilion of exhibitors under the banner of IIP. These exhibitors also availed the discount in the cost of participation as IIP availed special benefit from government. Saha along with his able colleagues were available at IIP stand to introduce the capabilities of Indian packaging industry.
Save food
Save Food, a new theme expo and congress, were arranged as part of the show. For the first time Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of United Nations cooperated with Interpack authorities by sharing its experience to benefit the world. As per FAO’s research, 30% of the food is wasted due to faulty packaging from distribution to consumption. Some of he salient features focussed during the congress and expo were green plastics 100% made from biodegradable raw materials; recycled waste management; food wastage between the fight against poverty and the affluent society; and packaging and products - future packaging.
Green packaging
The other focus was Green Packaging and Save Environment. The world leaders focussed to produce “eco-friendly packaging.” Many exhibitors exhibited their environment-friendly packaging materials.
Innovation park
This initiative was started at Interpack 2008. For 2011 the motto chosen was Quality of Life. The project was arranged with partners like European Retail Institute, Pan-European Brand Design Association and representatives of various companies. At Innovation Park Packaging, examples of best practices were presented in a kind of mall with various shops, each representing a sub-theme of Quality of Life.
Metal packaging plaza
It was created at Interpack 2011 as a new central forum for the international metal packaging industry and its suppliers. The centerpiece of the show was an information platform providing background data on current trade topics. Around this area, companies presented their innovative metal packaging solutions.
