Jayka to set up soya R&D centre in Indore, MP minister tells SOPA meet
Tuesday, 08 November, 2011, 08 : 00 AM [IST]
Archana Aroor, Mumbai
Japanese company Jayka will soon set up a soyabean research centre in Indore. In this regard, the company signed an MoU with Government of Madhya Pradesh at the 49th National Convention on Oilseeds, Oil Trade and Industry, which was hosted by Soyabean Processors Association of India (SOPA) recently in Indore.

The event was based on the theme - Productivity-A Gateway to Growth - and was inaugurated by Dr Ramkrishna Kusmaria, minister of agriculture, Madhya Pradesh. Speaking on the occasion, he urged the cultivators of kharif crops such as soyabean, groundnut and sunflower to use certified crops in order to yield higher productivity in the state.

"The Government of Madhya Pradesh has signed an MoU with Japanese company Jayka to set up a soyabean research centre in Indore to support research and development and marketing in Indore," the minister said.

"The minister highlighted the possibilities of increasing the production and also encouraged the farmers to use best farm extension services, good quality seeds, right use of technology and inclusion of early varieties of seeds, in order to yield greater productivity in the state of Madhya Pradesh," J S Pangaria, deputy director, SOPA, informed FnB News on Monday in a chat over telephone.

Around 700-800 members from across the country had participated in the event and about 6-7 delegates from countries such as China, Vietnam and Korea were also present.

Pangaria said that the event included two sessions, from among them the first one focussed on the price-outlook session and second on the crop estimate session along with discussions on latest market trends in demand and supplies and production of kharif crops.

A team of panelists comprising members from different organisations presented the price estimation for the kharif season 2011 particularly crops such as soyabean, groundnut and sunflower. The production pf soyabean for this season was estimated to be 115 lakh tonnes, groundnut to be 41.75 lakh tonnes and sunflower to be 1.2 lakh tonnes, whereby he said that there was a marginal decline in the production of groundnut and the sunflower this season due to late arrival of the monsoon season last year.

He then said that the only way to enhance the productivity was to improve the vertical growth as the state possessed limited availability of land under cultivation.

Further, Kailash Vijayvargiya, minister of commerce and industry, MP; Atul Chaturvedi, COO, Adani Wilmar; Rajnikant Ray, COO, ITC; and Sanjay Tanwani, director, commerce, ADM AGRO, Chennai; were also present on the occasion.
